Miami

Hmmm. Absolute silence out of Miami Beckham United but these articles about Beckham reps looking at a house on Star Island. I'm sure Beckham has reps looking at houses all over the place, but that doesn't mean Miami MLS is going to happen. Also who knows if Nesta's Miami FC will exist next year.

David Beckham MLS side welcome in Miami - Alessandro Nesta

Alessandro Nesta believes David Beckham's potential Major League Soccer side would not water down the soccer market in his city or weaken his own North American Soccer League (NASL) side, Miami FC.

Nesta said the city is big enough for two soccer teams despite financial struggles in the NASL, whose future is reported to be on the table this week as club owners and potential investors meet for crisis talks in Atlanta.

Beckham, who was Nesta's teammate at AC Milan, had his MLS franchise bid, tentatively called Miami Beckham United, cleared in 2014, but has struggled to reach a deal with Miami-Dade County over a new stadium and his plans could be delayed until 2019.

Beckham's franchise would be welcome in MLS - Nesta

The English icon's venture has been a long time coming according to the Italian, who personally extended an invitation to his old team-mate to come to Miami

Alessandro Nesta believes David Beckham's Miami MLS franchise will be a welcome addition to United States football should the team ever get clearance to join the league.

Beckham, a former team-mate of Nesta's at AC Milan, exercised his option to create an MLS franchise in February 2014, with the club provisionally called Miami Beckham United.

However, with reported financing issues and no agreement with the Miami-Dade County in order to complete a deal for a prospective area of land for a new stadium, Beckham's franchise is some way off joining MLS.

ASU Soccer: Decision time coming for ASU FC

For Arizona State’s men’s club soccer team, or ASU FC, a decision looms.

The spring season is quickly approaching and the club needs to choose which league it will be playing in.

"For the spring, we are looking to either join the UPSL (United Premier Soccer League) again or join the WCSA, West Coast Soccer Association," club president Jason Johnston said. "We have not officially decided which league we are going to join, but there will be ASU FC soccer this spring."

Not only do the two leagues differ in opposition, but they also differ when it comes to rules. As the UPSL is affiliated with FIFA, the world governing body of football, they operate by the same general rules as FIFA, which are generally stricter than those of the WCSA. The WCSA is an association strictly made up of college teams, and is not affiliated with FIFA.

Opinion: Unimaginative Club Identities are the New Scourge of US Soccer

by Alex Schieferdecker on 3 December 2016

The most frequent question about the professional soccer team that plays in Cary, NC, is famously: “what the hell is a RailHawk?” It’s a good question, because there is in fact no such thing as a RailHawk. But at the very least, the name is unique and local. After ten years of use, it is also what passes as historic in the compressed and erratic history of US soccer.

But in two days, fans in the triangle and across the country will no longer be confused about the name of North Carolina’s best professional soccer team. As shared by Neil Morris, the team will announce a rebrand on Tuesday that does away with the RailHawks name and colors in favor of the name North Carolina FC, the colors of the North Carolina flag, a star, and the shape of the MLS logo. This is the brand identity that owner Steve Malik is hoping will get his team into MLS.

A decision on an offer to cover a funding gap for a proposed soccer stadium in St. Louis could rest with the top professional league in the U.S.

Two groups have been trying to secure a local MLS expansion franchise and one is suggesting a partnership that could eliminate the need for public money. Foundry St. Louis officials say they are willing to put $80 million into the $200 million project proposed by SC STL.

Thumbs up to a true hero, and commish take easy way out

Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber’s visit to Cincinnati was a nice acknowledgement of what we’ve known all along: FC Cincinnati fans are on fire. While Garber said FC Cincinnati wouldn’t join MLS until at least 2020, he acknowledged that the outpouring of enthusiasm here is unique. ““This is a team that’s been playing for a year, and that’s not what we would have expected.” His advice on how to nab a coveted Major League expansion team: Just keep doing what we’re doing. The editorial board couldn’t agree more. One caveat, though: In an exclusive meeting with the editorial board, Garber made clear that the league prefers a dedicated soccer stadium. However, Hamilton County is still paying – literally and figuratively – for the stadiums that house the Bengals and Reds. If FC Cincinnati does pursue its own stadium, it would be wise to find a solution that doesn’t involve public money.
