Groups approaching SLU for soccer stadium site

Land owned by St. Louis University has become a potential site for a Major League Soccer stadium, and SLU officials say they’re interested.

The approximately 13-acre site at the northwest corner of Chouteau Avenue and South Grand Boulevard sits between the north and south campuses of SLU in midtown.

SLU President Fred Pestello said Friday that the university had talked with aspiring ownership group Foundry St. Louis and “others” about developing the site. The location is in the middle of a large swath the university wants to redevelop in the coming years under a master plan currently being drafted.

“We’d be very interested in looking at what that would mean as well as what it would bring to the surrounding area,” Pestello said. “We’re not at the point of having it very fleshed out.
