Game 4: Rowdies Home Attendance Thread (4/22 vs. Charleston Battery) (self.TampaBayRowdies)

submitted 4 hours ago by Tampa Bay Rowdiesphat7deuce

Below you'll find this weeks attendance thread. We're now -2.0% behind last year's attendance through 4 games. Not desperate, but for sure something I hope turns a corner. Last week brought 5,016 through the gates against Charleston. There was a 6:10 first pitch for the Rays that night, but all other conditions were great. Rays are on the road next week, hopefully we can grab a better performance against Richmond.

*Missing information, not all games reported as of yet

While the numbers are only down slightly this year compared to last I have to wonder if that is because we are playing less marketable teams in the USL.

Perhaps. But I'd say only against Toronto 2. Otherwise, I'm not sure any NASL teams mean anything except for the Cosmos and Strikers to people.

Season structure is going to have an impact, because of the NASL split season. For example, last year Game 5 was the Spring Season finale and Game 6 was the Fall Season opener. We have typically marketed and drawn better in those games. Now they're just regular, middle of the season games. Definitely will have an impact...

Rays being on the road will hopefully help. I know I made the decision to go to the Rowdies over the Rays, but I had to think about it. Rowdies are doing decent promo work on Facebook so I'm hopeful. I'll try to be there this week too.

Frank Yallop steps down as Phoenix Rising coach amid bid to join MLS

Frank Yallop resigned as the coach of Phoenix Rising on Monday, less than a month into the USL club's season and in the midst of its bid to move to Major League Soccer.

The move comes one day after the club introduced former Chelsea star Didier Drogba as a new player and executive.

The Arizona city is among a group of a dozen U.S. locations hoping to be awarded one of four MLS expansion bids either later this year or thereafter.

Phoenix had won its past two games after starting the season with two defeats, but the club said Yallop wanted to spend more time with his family after commuting from Northern California for the past year and a half.

The club's lead owner, Berke Bakay, told ESPN FC that the Yallop's decision came as a surprise to everyone, including Drogba.

FAIRFIELD, N.J., April 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Not only are arenas and stadia using ETFE technology for their roof enclosures, but for canopies and facades as well. Olympia Development of Michigan is building Little Caesars Arena as a part of The District Detroit development. This new arena, future home of the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Pistons, was designed by HOK and features a bowl which is sunken 40 feet below grade. This design allows the arena to blend in with the surrounding neighborhood. The concourse area, between the arena and adjacent retail and office space, will be covered with 44,000 ft2 of Texlon® ETFE on two sides (east and south), and is near completion. This will allow fans to feel as though they are in an outdoor promenade with views of the sky, but they are protected from the elements. Enclosing this area helps to ensure this retail area is active before, during and after games, regardless of the weather.

Milestone's continue to be reached throughout the construction of the new Little Caesar's Arena.  Everything is staying on track for the opening in September 2017 and goals have been exceeded for Detroit-based business participation. Vector Foiltec is excited to be a part of this amazing arena.

For over 30 years, Vector Foiltec has been the global market leader and innovator for ETFE technology. We engineer, design, and install Texlon® ETFE projects, helping create sustainable, cost efficient, lightweight, high performance transparent building envelopes, that are both unique and elegant. Vector Foiltec offers the utmost in value and quality with our products and processes.

St. Petersburg named one of 20 best places to live and visit by Coastal Living magazine

Times staff

Friday, April 21, 2017 10:59am

Coastal Living magazine has featured St. Petersburg as one of the 20 "best places to live," while touting it as an ideal vacation spot for those not looking to make Tampa Bay their home.

"Nestled on the bright blue waters of Tampa Bay, this cosmopolitan city just keeps getting better and better," the article says .

The article highlights many of Pinellas County's biggest attractions: The Dali Museum, St. Pete Beach, Clearwater Beach, Fort DeSoto Park and the Don CeSar Hotel.

For food and drinks, Coastal Living directs visitors to cocktail bar Mandarin Hide, local coffee chain Kahwa, and Locale Gourmet Market.

The writers say St. Pete strikes a balance between historic, small-scale neighborhoods and big-city pleasures.

"With mild winters, this is a year-round city of outdoor play, and the proximity of 35 miles of white-sand beaches adds a quality-of-life layer that few other sophisticated enclaves possess," the article says.

Best Places to Live: St. Petersburg, Florida

By Bob Curley and Tracey Minkin

Get to know this upstart city on Florida’s Gulf Coast, and one of the 20 Best Places to Live 2017. Get the inside scoop on St. Petersburg, including where to eat, drink, play, and stay.

Nestled on the bright blue waters of Tampa Bay, this cosmopolitan city just keeps getting better and better, with a downtown arts and culture scene best exemplified by the spectacular Dalí Museum anchoring the waterfront. Historic, small-scale neighborhoods balance the big-city pleasures. With mild winters, this is a year-round city of outdoor play, and the proximity of 35 miles of white-sand beaches adds a quality-of-life layer that few other sophisticated enclaves possess.

St. Petersburg by the Numbers

Population: 257,083
Average July high: 91
Average January low: 53
Median home price: $159,800
Average commute time: 22 minutes
Number of sunny days: 248

Best Beaches and Other Attractions

It's hard to beat the five miles of white sand and the clear waters of St. Pete Beach, which also includes the grandly pink backdrop of The Don CeSar hotel. And if that isn’t enough, next-door Clearwater Beach is a showcase of two and a half miles of more gorgeous white sand and clear waters, with a new, gently curving BeachWalk, making strolling (and rolling) a pleasure for all.

Fort de Soto Park has more than 1,000 acres of parkland spread across five small islands in Tampa Bay. When you’re not chilling on one of the best beaches in the United States, you can tour the 1898 fortifications on Mullet Key, picnic or camp overnight, or explore via the park’s nature trails, 6.8-mile paved recreation trail, and a two-mile canoe trail.

The Dalí Museum is an architectural knockout that pairs its vast permanent collection of the artist's works with fascinating rotating exhibits. Long a local favorite, the museum has emerged into a world-class destination and waterfront superstar. Nearby, in the center of downtown and steps from the waterfront, St. Petersburg's revitalized Sundial complex anchors some of the city's coolest food and drink hangouts, as well as shops.

Where to Eat and Drink

Leading St. Petersburg’s culinary scene, chef Fabrizio Aielli showcases Florida seafood at Sea Salt, not to mention 130 different salts from around the world to season that catch. Next door to Sea Salt in the Sundial complex, Locale Gourmet Market is Michael Mina’s fever dream of market-style shopping, mind-blowing prepared foods, and a killer cocktail bar. One could live here, if one chose.

Gear up for plates of Southern-flavored mixed-grill charcuterie and generous meat and seafood dishes downed with handmade cocktails in a delightfully rustic atmosphere (paper plates intentional) at The Mill, a new and excellent culinary contender. Dine on New American cuisine al fresco or in an oenophiles’ dream dining room at Birch & Vine, located in the boutique Birchwood Inn.

For drinking expeditions, head straight to The Mandarin Hide, the heralded leaders of St. Petersburg’s cocktail renaissance. And for that other kind of drinking expedition, Kahwa Coffee is a homegrown mini empire of 11 bright cafés with excellent coffee, plus a Kahwagon Mobile Coffee Shop truck that brings brew to special events.

Where to Stay

The coral-tinted facade and octagonal observation tower of the The Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club have been beacons for winter-weary snowbirds flying south to St. Pete since 1925. Now a Renaissance hotel, the resort on Tampa Bay remains the city’s most fashionable vacation spot; a walk through the original Moorish archways leads to water view rooms, a destination spa, and the Vinoy Golf Club.

For another dose of historic pink (and steps to the beach), there’s no greater destination than the Don CeSar Hotel in neighboring St. Pete Beach (pictured above).
