Meis Architects Design FC Cincinnati Stadium with ETFE Pillows

Meis Architects have released new renderings of the FC Cincinnati soccer stadium in Ohio. After FC Cincinnati won their bid to become a Major League Soccer (MLS) team, the design was made to seat 26,500 people at a cost of $200 million. The stadium will be built with a retractable roof canopy and ETFE pillows that can be lit with the soccer club’s blue and orange colors

FC Cincinnati's bid to become a MLS team was successful earlier this year, and they will leave the United Soccer League to begin play as a MLS team next spring. Meis Architects has said that, "additional modifications and adjustments are expected to be made over the next few months before formal construction begins in 2019." The club's u-shaped stadium aspires to be a premier soccer venue in the West End neighborhood of Cincinnati, across the street from the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood.

“We believe our West End stadium will be a catalyst for the neighborhood, but also help position Cincinnati as a ‘City on the Rise’ on both a national and international scale,” said Jeff Berding, FCC president and general manager. As Meis states, The Bailey - the home club's designated supporter's section - is located at the north end of the stadium and will have a capacity of over 3,000 seats in a single steep tier behind the home goal. The steep seating bowl design was made to ensure a more dynamic soccer viewing experience.

The club hopes to move into the new stadium in 2021.

I’m all in on pursuit of MLS team but still worry the other soccer shoe might fall

Jim Kavanaugh, co-founder and CEO of World Wide Technology, and members of the Taylor family from Enterprise Rent-A-Car, announced a new proposal to bring the MLS to St. Louis. A new St. Louis MLS team would be the first majority female-owned club in league history.

All systems seem to be a “go” with the Taylor family and World Wide Technology CEO Jim Kavanaugh backing a plan to construct a soccer stadium in the city of St. Louis and lure an expansion Major League Soccer franchise.

I’d check out a game or two each season, even though I’m not a soccer fan. I’m sure there are thousands of regional residents who feel the same. We have no personal soccer history, and only pay attention during the World Cup and Olympics.

It would be cool to have a team and a bit of a coup for St. Louis to land one.

Ferry service returns to area with lower fares

The Cross-Bay Ferry will again link Tampa and St. Pete.

TAMPA — The Cross-Bay Ferry service will re-launch Nov. 1 with a new schedule, lower fares and a new dock in Tampa.

Six months worth of funding for the service, which will run Tuesday through Sunday until April 19, has been provided by the City of St. Petersburg, City of Tampa, Hillsborough County and Pinellas County, according to a press release.

In St. Petersburg, the ferry will dock at the Vinoy Yacht Basin, within walking distance of Straub Park, the Museum of Fine Arts and the shops and restaurants along Beach Drive. In Tampa, the ferry will dock at a new location adjacent to the Florida Aquarium, just steps away from Sparkman Wharf, Amalie Arena, the Tampa Bay History Center and the Tampa Riverwalk.

One-way fares have been lowered to $8 for adults and $3 for children, with discounts for seniors, college students and military personnel, the release states. Operating hours for the high-speed catamaran service have been extended to accommodate users who want to experience nightlife across the bay but take the ferry home.

“Ever since the first season finished, people have asked me when the ferry will return, and I’m thrilled to say the answer is Nov. 1,” St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman, an original backer of the ferry project, states in the release. “The ferry provides a fun, fast and efficient way to connect two great cities across the water.”
