SOME INTERESTING INTEREST: Cuban: MLS has the best opportunity to invest in outside of NBA

FRISCO, Texas — Mark Cuban, Major League Soccer team owner?

Hmmm, maybe.

Earlier on Saturday, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks was asked on reddit:

If you could own a team in any other sports league, what league would you choose?

“If you would have asked me this question 10 years ago, I would have said baseball, but things have changed,” Cuban replied

“I think the MLS has the best opportunity outside of the NBA. Their challenge is that the value of their franchsies are growing faster than their revenues, which makes it harder to invest in a franchise.

“But I think generally they are best positioned behind the NBA.”

Not surprisingly, that peaked the interest of MLS commissioner Don Garber, who earlier in the night was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame at Toyota Stadium.

“Mark should give me a call,” Garber said. “Ask him if he wants my email address.”

Why Smaller Sports League Want in on Legal Sports Betting

Brian Musburger, founder and chairman of the Vegas Stats & Information Network (VSiN), the sports information and multi-platform media channel, told Sports Handle, “We have been in contact with many of the professional sports leagues as they look to create a strategy for in-game wagering content.  While many of those leagues are understandably cautious, we are starting to see others like the Arena Football League (AFL) and the United Soccer League (USL) move aggressively into the space. It’s a great opportunity for leagues like the AFL, which have progressive commissioners, to jump into partnerships around sports betting as a way to grow audience.”

Recent announcements in this realm include:

* On October 10, Bookmaker William Hill US and VSiN offered a special in-game wagering menu and a live broadcast called a “Betcast” for a Las Vegas Lights (United Soccer League) game. The program aired from VSiN’s studio at the South Point for a singular over-the-air broadcast.
