Longtime Sounders coach Sigi Schmid, who parted ways with the club in late July, will join ESPN as a studio analyst for this Sunday’s Major League Soccer doubleheader.

The veteran coach will also contribute to MLS’ streaming coverage of the final day of the regular season next weekend.

“It keeps me around the game and keeps me busy,” Schmid said Wednesday. “Those are two good things.”

This is a short-term thing while he continues to pursue another coaching job, Schmid stresses, though he does think he can provide a unique viewpoint. In contrast to say, coverage of the NFL, American soccer studios are more likely to be populated by former players than ex-coaches.
