Redditors comment on "historic announcement". Similar feel to Facebook comments. Lots of deprecation and down-playing of the announcement. No one wants to think about MLS. Best they can suggest is expanding Al Lang, but really, expanding to 10,000 isn't much, and there really isn't room for much more. If we do go to MLS, a complete tear down of Al Lang, reorientation of the field, and a properly designed and built SSS is the only solution.

I just got the email about this.

I'm.... not sure what to think.

On one hand, it's right in line with what someone said to look for a couple days ago, though they didn't exactly spin it as something great. I have a remind me messaged schedule for a few days after this, so I'll likely remember who and what they said then lol.

I mean... Florida Cup and MLS Suncoast Invitational is already known at this point. The move to USL is long since done. Could this be an expansion of Al Lang?

Would they really tease a new ownership announcement this far in advance? It has to be Al Lang expansion, especially since this is something they've wanted for a while now.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what/where would they expand? The Mahaffey parking lot is behind it, the bay is on one side and downtown is on the other and then their own parking lot is in front.

I've been looking at pictures of the stadium as it exists for the past couple of minutes and you do raise fair points.

There definitely is a ton of room to expand the midfield seating, not only by length, but by height as well. So that's an easy start, at least. Though I wouldn't be crazy if the only thing this announcement netted us was a couple thousand more empty corporate seats.

I'd imagine a permanent stand being built stretching from the hill to the Mahaffey corner and a shallow stand being built on the Mahaffey end that partially hangs over the lot, perhaps. DC United has to do something like that due to where their plot of land is situated.

Hasn't that already happened? I mean they did say they were expanding to 10,000 for the Florida Cup with bleachers. I would surmise that we would have heard something involving City Council if it were true.

The only additional seating for the Florida Cup from this past season that has been spotted is some VIP seating along midfield, next to the grandstand. There is no way that there are enough seats in that section (if it's even a permanent feature to the stadium) that it brings the number up to 10,000.
