David Beckham Update: Beckham’s Potentially Bankrupt, Miami Club Delayed

This article is a mess. Miami Beckham United is just the working title for the current ownership group trying to get an MLS team in Miami. It is not, and never will be, the name of the actual MLS team in Miami, should one eventually come to exist.

The rest of the article is no better and I don't see how David Beckham lending his wife's business some money means they are about to go bankrupt. He would have to lose a lot more than $7 million to be in any danger of going bankrupt.

On the whole, a very shoddy piece of work. The only thing accurate here is that Beckham's Miami MLS team project is delayed, and possibly not happening, but not due to Beckham going bankrupt.

David Beckham update — 3 years into retirement, superstar David Beckham chose to put up his own club. Unfortunately, his club’s debut will be delayed. Could it be an effect of his potential money woes?

Beckham’s team is based in Miami and the club’s name is Miami Beckham United (MBU). Founded in 2014, the year right after he retired, the MBU is one of the most anticipated new teams in the MLS in the next few years.

By 2015, Beckham and the team’s co-owners have announced that their stadium will be built on the Overtown in Miami. Unfortunately, this year, although they have found land where to build their stadium on, the team has not finalized any deal yet. They expected to debut in 2018 but they could be delayed until late 2019, per Real GM.

Other teams (Atlanta United and Minnesota United) look like they will be having their debut ahead of MBU. Rumors have spread as well that the delay may have been caused by Beckham’s apparent money woes. Could he be leading to bankruptcy?

David Beckham update: Near bankruptcy?

Just a few months ago, Beckham had just lent nearly $7 million to his wife Victoria. The Spice Girl’s clothing line had been set up for a few years now but has not exactly been successful. After setting up her company, the individual stores and a new website, it was assumed that she had millions of pounds of debt, as per Metro.

It came as unexpected for many fans because Victoria had been named Entrepreneur of the Year and won several fashion awards. David’s $7 million helped save his wife out of debts. But outside that problem, Beckham does not really have any business to maintain.

Fortunately, the delay is actually just caused by problems of the site and not with the lack of funds. Support for the construction has been a problem but at least the delay is just one year.
