Rowdies Home Attendance Tracker – Game 14 vs. Nashville SC [8/31]

At 4,022, it’s lowest number in the last 3 years (and probably a lot longer...I’d have to check).

Two major factors:

Hurricane Dorian – Obviously it looks like we’ll dodge a bullet here, but there was no way ticket reps could make calls this week to sell tickets, and if they did it’s not likely people would have bought until Friday when we knew we were likely in the clear

No ticket specials – Flex packs are still around, but the days of the flash sales or Rays combos have passed. Now you can debate whether that makes sense to stop now, but it was a prime source of anger for Season Ticket Holders who were getting a pretty raw deal by paying more than those who hit the weekly deals. If you look at the table above you can pretty much draw a line when those deep discounts stopped.

Yep and yep... I was not planning on a renwal for 2020. Their new approach looks much better!

Are you thinking about it with the new approach? Wondering how many people that it will change the way they were thinking...

I'm planning on renewing before the end of the season (rewarding those that do would help reward and capture loyal fans). One thing Edwards did was make Season holders feel a bit special. I remember tickets being cheaer if you bought Season Tix. The new approach seems to be about making those season tickets the best deal again, while enabling them to use the specials again.

One thing I've really noticed is fewer league kids lining up before the match. Those famies always bring parents, sibling and friends. They need to work on that again.

[RalphsMob.com] Moving to a New Home, at a Sweet New Price

get hyped!!

450 capacity for Ralph's Mob seems rather ambitious...

Personally I think it’s closer to 500, since there are 508 yellow seats there today, but that’s actually nearly the same number of seats in the bleachers of the Mob section today in the upper area.

I think they key play here though is how inexpensive that section is...it was always the cheapest seat, but with student tickets you could sit other places for the Mob price. Now it is legitimately the least expensive. From what we’re hearing demand is high enough that they want to make sure that actual Mob members have enough left to occupy the section.

Putting my deposit down tomorrow for the section. Looking forward to hanging out with the best supporters in American Football....

Moving to a New Home, at a Sweet New Price

This week Rowdies Season Ticket renewals for 2020 opened and along with it came great news for supporters in the coming year. These are changes that, as an organization, Ralph’s Mob is incredibly excited for and have been pushing for or have had conversations with the Rowdies Front Office for the past few years.

Here’s a quick run down of three big changes.

Moving Directly Behind the Goal

We’ve made a great home under the overhang through the years, but directly behind the goal is the rightful home for supporters. In the last couple years we’ve experimented with being behind the goal in the US Open Cup matches. It created a great environment for the match and being so close to the action helps give the players a boost to make Al Lang a fortress. This change, specifically, was one that Neill was really behind at the recent Supporters Summit, noting how much of a lift we give the team. The new supporter section will cover the whole goal line from sections 109-113, with room for 450+ people.

Safe Standing Section and Construction

In recent years there has been a wave of soccer stadiums in the United States installing safe standing supporters sections in newly constructed stadiums. These have been popular in Europe (especially in Germany), where a wall of standing supporters creates an imposing, but safe environment to do what we do. Currently there are four stadiums in the US that have it as a feature (Minnesota, LAFC, San Jose, and another team). Next season we’ll join Louisville City as the first two teams to have it installed as permanent stands in USL Championship.

If you’re unfamiliar safe standing sections, they can take a few different forms. In most cases they are seatless sections, with a full height rail at the front of each tier or row. This allows supporters to stand, chant, and cheer without a bleacher in the way and with no fear of falling into the row in front of you. Some versions have a fold flat seat that collapses entirely into the rail. As we understand it, the team has reached out to a few vendors for options, so stay tuned for more details.

As part of this move and construction, there is also intended to be two capo stands and a drum stand built to further enhance the section. We’ll be able feature our banners pitchside in view of the whole stadium. We’ll also be working with the team to expand our pulley system for tifo which we will continue to fly from the roof.

Season Ticket Pricing Overhaul

Prices have gone down dramatically all over the stadium for season tickets – at an average of 36% for all seats. Some seats went down by hundreds of dollars. The great news for Mobsters is that our seats, in our new pitch side location, will continue to be the cheapest season ticket you can buy. In 2020, supporter section season tickets will be $153, down from $238 in 2019. With at least one bonus game (TBA) included, that brings the supporters ticket to less than $9 per match. A huge savings from recent years.

Demand looks to be pretty high, because of the new location and the new price. Ticket reps have been reaching out to current season ticket holders to place $50 deposits for 2020 season tickets. For those interested (whether or not you were a season ticket holder last year), we recommend reaching out to the box office to make sure you get yours locked in.

Lots of exciting changes in the mix.  We want 2020 to be our biggest year ever. COYR.

Ralph’s Mob Season Ticket Survey
The new safe standing supporter section looks like it’s going to be incredibly popular and the team wants to make sure that there are enough seats held for Mobsters who intend to buy tickets. In an effort to understand the demand, we put together this survey to try to make sure there are enough seats allocated. Please take a couple minutes and fill out the following survey.

From Class of the East to Serious Questions- This game had draw written all over it. Nashville's first goal in a half that was destined to go nil-nil was a bit of set-piece trickery that was either drawn up on the video board or a great bit of luck. I honestly feel it might be the former. I think many teams are starting to review this Rowdies tape and exploit whatever defensive weaknesses they can, all the way down to how to line up set pieces. The Rowdies still play a good brand of soccer but it's not so dominant anymore. Good eastern teams are not afraid to challenge the Rowdies on both sides of the ball. Nashville should have the Rowdies asking a few more questions on how they can get back to defensive excellence.

The Question: Is the Morad-Johnson right side ripe for exploitation- I've been asking a lot of questions about Morad's form lately and his ability to cover his side against wingers. Those questions continued tonight as Nashville buildup play was consistently dangerous on his end for stretches of the game. I include Johnson in this because I don't think he has natural defensive inclination. He's superior on the offensive end with his dribbling ability to work his way past defenders but on defense he allows unmarked runners, misses tackles, and allows players by him. His counterpart Fernandes is more composed defensively and Richards hasn't gotten beat often with the exception of two major moments tonight.

Any Answers?- I doubt Collins wants to stray away from his current backline because the options are sparse. We saw Barry sub in for Morad and Barry could be a capable replacement if Morad is truly hurting the Rowdies defensively. But is Barry a better option? It's hard to tell because we've seen so little of him this season. You obviously don't want to replace Johnson with how great he's been on offense. Before the match, I was wondering if Collins had thought about a four-man backline versus better-attacking teams. We're now consistently seeing great attacking teams like NCFC, RB2, and now Nashville get multiple-goal games versus the Rowdies. This is not a fluke.

Guenzatti's Record-Breaking Goal- I went on record before the season with little faith in Sebastian Guenzatti. There really wasn't much hype around him in general. Rowdies fans have been warm to him, but I don't think anyone predicted he would break a Georgi Hristov's goalscoring record this season. I'm going to speak on Collins influence in a moment but it's ultimately a credit to Guenzatti's talent as a player. I never saw him as a quality starter until this season. I thought of him as a good 60-70th minute sub to close games. I knew he was good defensively, but didn't see his playmaking or finishing as strong. The Campbell era wasn't going to do Guenzatti much justice. He's not an out and out striker or winger. He's best used in a centre-forward or attacking mid role where he can create offensively and get open space to score. His game has to be swift and compact because he isn't quick, so he has to make the most of his touches in quick succession. With wingers that create all sorts of defensive havoc, Guenzatti has been the benefactor and he's been finishing chances this season at a good clip.

Revitalization efforts- Guenzatti's career hasn't been the only one revitalized by Collins system. Poku has made a brilliant return to elite level football. Like Guenzatti, Poku must have been putting in a lot of work in the gym and on the training ground to get to the level he's playing at, so you can't say this is a Collins effort. At the same token, I don't think it's coincidence that two players who weren't very good last year are all of the sudden two of the best offensive players on the team. Even Fernandes has improved his game a level. There's definitely been a change of atmosphere and philosophy that has shifted with Collins first full year at the helm. But now late in the season, the seas are starting to throw some heavy waves, so now we're really going to find out if Collins is ready to take on his next great obstacle.

Late season adjustments- This is where we've yet to see Collins as a coach tested. Important games late in the season. It's been a rocky month for the Rowdies. Collins appears pretty set on his team and how he wants them to play week in and week out, but now the Rowdies aren't so domineering anymore. What can and will Collins do to ensure the Rowdies earn a top spot in the East and a championship run? There's a level of uncertainty creeping in now. Are the Rowdies really that good? Are they one of the best teams in the East?

The biggest Town Hall talking points

On Thursday night, FC Cincinnati held their first-ever Town Hall at “4th & Vine – a first financial community,” located directly across the street from the club’s downtown offices.

The reason for the event was simple:

“It’s for good conversation about the state of the club and the future.”

That’s what President Jeff Berding said about the event, which lasted approximately 90 minutes and included Berding, Head Coach Ron Jans and General Manager Gerard Nijkamp answering questions about the club, the present and the future.

Here are the main points to take away from Thursday night:

MATCH CENTER

MATTHEWS, N.C. – The Tampa Bay Rowdies got back to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over the Charlotte Independence at Sportsplex at Matthews on Saturday night. Looking to bounce back after a 2-1 loss to Nashville at home last weekend, the Rowdies started strong against the Independence and opened the scoring after just seven minutes as midfielder Leo Fernandes put a ball on a plate for forward Juan Tejada, who tapped in from a couple yards out and beat Charlotte goalkeeper Brandon Miller at his near post. The Rowdies would keep their lead through halftime and then extend it in the 49th minute when Tejada again found the back of the net, tapping in a cross this time from forward Sebastian Guenzatti from close out. The visitors would find their third of the night after 74 minutes when substitutes Jaime Siaj and Lucky Mkosana linked up, resulting in Siaj finishing off a one-two to all but secure the three points. Charlotte’s lone goal came in the 83rd minute when Hugh Roberts finished eventually helped the ball over the line after a goalmouth scramble that involved multiple blocked and saved efforts, but the Rowdies would finish the night comfortably ahead.

USL Championship Man of the Match

Juan Tejada, Tampa Bay Rowdies – Tejada’s brace lifted the Rowdies over the Independence with the young Panamanian international also winning two of two duels and completing over 77 percent of his passes in the win.
