Landon Donovan professes love for Galaxy in MLS return

CARSON — The Galaxy will always hold a special place in Landon Donovan’s heart.

When Donovan returned to the U.S after a stint with Bayer Leverkusen of the German Bundesliga, he returned to Major League Soccer and landed with the Galaxy, bringing the Southern California kid from Redlands back home.

Donovan helped lead the Galaxy to four MLS Cups, two Supporters’ Shield trophies and an U.S. Open Cup title — and then decided to walk away at the age of 32.

Many of his peers though he wouldn’t stay away for long. Retirement life had brought him a new marriage and baby son, an ownership stake in Swansea City of the English Premier League and work as a television analyst.

Thursday, he made it official that he was returning, rejoining the Galaxy for the remainder of the 2016 season.
