Casino Arizona lands stadium sponsorship deal with USL team

Tribal-run Casino Arizona has acquired the naming rights to the Phoenix Rising Sports Complex, the home stadium of United Soccer League (USL) club Phoenix Rising FC.

The venue has been renamed the Casino Arizona Field, while the casino will also benefit from branding exposure throughout the facility as part of a multi-year deal.

US third-tier side Richmond Kickers announce Charles Boateng signing from WAFA

American USL League One side Richmond Kickers have announced the signing of midfielder Charles Boateng on loan from Ghana Premier League side WAFA for the 2019 season.

The deal is pending approval from the United States Soccer Federation and the USL League One.

''Charles is a player that will be an unknown to many in the Richmond soccer community, but I bet he will not be one they forget,'' Kickers head coach David Bulow said.

''He’s a player with a lot of interest from MLS and USL Championship clubs, but due to some external factors, he has landed with the Richmond Kickers, and I couldn’t be more excited to work with such an exciting young prospect.''

Boateng was WAFA's top scorer for the first half of the 2017/2018 season.

He was a member of the Ghana U20 team which failed to qualify for the 2017 African Youth Championship.

A fashionable rugby shirt? Isn’t that a juxtaposition?

For his latest 24 Hours Wearing column, Jonathan Heaf, inspired by the Guinness Six Nations tournament, tries to tap into rugby's passion by kicking off his week in a Gucci rugby shirt. Style red card or converted for the win?

I mean, I’d have to think very hard before I’d wear a high-fashion rugby shirt such as this to an away match, say, to support England at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. What might be the correct sporting attire for a swift Negroni at the Connaught Bar in London might not be the right thing to wear while facing 80,000 native Welshman on their home turf. Still, you could say the same about skinny white jeans, couldn't you? Or David Beckham's (awesome) new pink-coloured kit for his Inter Miami CF football team. The solution? Wear the damn fashion shirt and support the team from the safety of your sofa. Final score? Hypebeasts 1, Basic Sporting Bros 0.

J King's Player Form Project Week 2- TBR v PGH

Player Impact Notes

Steinberger, Ekra, and Barry all shine in the positive impact department. Richards had a great game after a mum first week. Oduro was the only player in the negative as his plays tend to have a high variance of outcomes, but it's been his passing that's been his biggest weakness. Allen failed to make much of a mark on the game in general. Fernandes struggled in the first half but had a wicked second half that really showcased his potential as a wing playmaker and fearsome dribbler.

Stat Update

The Rowdies are the only team in the league with zero goals allowed.

The Rowdies are third to last in shot attempts with 13. The two teams below them have only played one game.

The Rowdies are second to last in passing accuracy at 65%. The only team below them are Baby Bulls at 64%

McCarthy has faced one shot. He has three catches.

Ekra has won 9 fouls and conceded only 2.

Oduro and Guenzatti have conceded 5 fouls.

Oduro has 5 interceptions.

Morad leads passing in the attacking half with 70%. Guenzatti is second with 66%. Tejada at 64%.

Fernandes has 3 key passes and 6 crosses completing 1 of them.

IMPRESSIVE STAT: Morad has completed 11 of his 18 long passes. Morad leads the team in pass accuracy with 82%.

Fernandes and Barry passing percentage is just below 60%.

This week will be a really good test, St. Louis gutted out a couple solid wins...

Rowdies Home Attendance Thread - Game 1 vs. Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC [3/16]

Attendance Thread

Well...Game 1 of the Rays era is in the books and per usual it was a sellout. Lots of nice surprises in the stadium as they definitely freshened up the place. It felt pretty full to me after the 20-30 minute mark (heard there were issues with parking). They definitely worked to sell it out. There was that $5 ticket flash sale, a discount for first responders and military - quite a few promotions. We announced 7,234 this year which is slightly down (-1.8%) versus the 7,368 for the opener in 2018. Will be interesting to see how this holds up as the season winds on. The good news? This is a professional ticketing operation with a far greater reach and that should help us out. The bad news? That organization has a bigger priority in selling tickets to the Rays. I believe we do have our own dedicated staff for ticket sales, but there will be a few games where they will be selling in competition to each other.

All in all a great start, great improvements, a great crowd, and a really great win.

Thanks for this.

My only worry is the need for a flash sale a week before the opening game. The negative stigma surrounding the Rays ownership group might hurt us. Tough to tell this early on but def something to keep an eye on.

Overall, the crowd def looked full around 30 minutes in. The game was excellent and the Mob sang the entire time. Glad to have my Rowdies back!

The flash sale concerned me, as well. I can't be certain of this, but I think we're a "late buying" type of event and that might have freaked out Rays brass – prompting the flash sale. There were lots of people looking for tickets on Saturday. We had people that kept coming up to us in the Mob booth that were looking for them.

From everything I hear internally, the Rays group has been really great and more professional overall. From a fan perspective, they dropped prices on concessions (biggest one I noticed was water going from $5 to $3), freshened up the stadium, and created a much cooler package for STH. I hope people give them credit where credit is due.

I was honestly shocked about the water thing. I grabbed 2 from a “beer girl” and she told $6. I assumed she meant each, as they were $5 each for the Invitational matches. I appreciate the good things the organization is doing. The ticketing process seems to be a bit of a mess right now. Ticketmaster didn’t have single game student tickets available for the opener. I usually bring my kid to home matches, so I hope that gets squared away. Parking pass hasn’t shown up yet, but they have my name on a list for Lot A, so I can’t REALLY complain.

Stadium looked great, the supporters section was LOUD!!

Concessions were rough from what I heard from my wife – hopefully they get all of that stuff sorted out.

They ran out of pizza and burgers at one of them and they had to get hotdogs from another concession which were lukewarm at best.

Go in person for student tickets; easier process. Just make sure you have your kid’s school id.

Calculations: Thoughts on attendance raised in Sell-Out post.

The issue of whether or not our first home match was actually sold out, was raised in another thread. But I thought it merited its own discussion.

I don't doubt Saturdays Sell-Out, but this is the first Rays-era match and I was away on business. Here are my thoughts on the matter itself. In the past, I could look through the stands and easily ballpark what the announced attendance would be. Personally speaking, they were always very consistent. But again, I had to miss this one. On the other hand, judging attendance from the broadcasts is nearly impossible for many reasons.

It takes a good 20 minutes into the match for everyone to get seated after the field entrance activities.

Standing areas: agenerally not ticked (never seen it), so occupied they get occupied by seat holders and GA patrons. This includes "The Hill", the area west of the Mid-field seats, *possibly the garden to the east of said stands (but they are probably part of a coporate mid-field seat package?), and now the new food truck area along Bayshore.

Those F*ing camera angles, always show our worst side.

Corporate packages in the midfield. Seat liscenses bring in good money, but not the ardent fans that stick around watching the match instead of schmoozing in the corporate tent. Ergo.... Empty seats may already be sold, but not visibly occupied. Same thing in the main stands. Groups buy a block of reserved seats which can't be double sold.

In the end, I always look forward to Dueces numbers! (Keep it going Mob brother!) It's hard to judge a venue geared towards families. Yet the Rowdies clearly draw a good crowd so all we're really talking about is semantics!

COYR!

Tickets were sold out, that much is certain. The reported number is 7,234. I gotta say, from what I remember at least...it didn't really look like that in the stands, but I could be wrong.

I was late to the game because of parking garages filling up and I saw a few people in Rowdies gear trying to find a space too.

Felt pretty full to me...I took this pic around the 35-40 min mark from what I remember. We noticed quite a few people standing at the Bayshore food truck area (which is actually a killer idea...buy a cheap seat and hang out at the field level, midfield).

View is great for a 5$ ticket

Not many stayed I counted maybe 15 that actually stayed to watch the match there and some 5 or 7 that sat at the tables to eat and left when they finished
