Hello friends

I'm on the hunt for a new Rowdies kit, as my current one is the black one from 2012. Do they normally do a post-season sale on the official team store ($80 is a lot for an "old" kit)? Is there somewhere else I could get one online? I'm based in the UK if that matters.

https://www.footballfancast.com/premier-league/joe-coles-productive-stint-in-france-is-the-wrong-lesson-for-young-english-talent

Joe Cole’s productive stint in France is the wrong lesson for young English talent

Joe Cole has played for some big clubs. In the Premier League, he’s made 126 appearances for West Ham United, and 182 for Chelsea. But if you were asked which club the former England man made his third-most appearances for, would you have guessed his current club, the Tampa Bay Rowdies?

Certainly others should follow that lead. It may well be that they, like Burke, can’t settle, and it might be, like Barton, they’re asked to come back. But looking at Cole, who played 12 times for Aston Villa and 22 times for Coventry City upon returning to England before joining the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the lower leagues in the States, you get the feeling that his 32 league games in one season in France was the most productive time of his career post-Chelsea.

Paterson Impressed by Northern Ireland’s Form

Ex-Orlando City player Martin Paterson has said that he is impressed with Northern Ireland’s recent form, which has seen them advance to the knockout stage of Euro 2016, and is preparing for a two-legged playoff that will see the winner qualify for the 2018 World Cup. Paterson, who made four appearances for the Lions during an injury-plagued loan stint in 2015, scored a goal for his national side in 2013 that arguably saved manager Michael O’Neill’s job, and has enabled him to guide the team to their successes. Currently playing with the Tampa Bay Rowdies, Paterson has not yet ruled out a return to the international stage with Northern Ireland, but at the moment is giving the team his full support.

Vinoy parking garage gets the go-ahead

St. Petersburg voters approved a parking garage at the Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort and Golf Club as part of the luxury hotel’s $50 million renovation plans.

A referendum asking voters for the OK to go ahead with the project passed with 63 percent of the vote on Tuesday. The measure appeared on the ballot alongside the city’s mayoral and City Council races.

The planned garage will be one story with eight tennis courts on the roof. It will be built immediately behind the hotel where eight existing tennis courts are located.

A 1984 city charter requires construction on historic locations in downtown St. Pete to receive voter approval. A similar rule forced the Tampa Bay Rowdies to put its renovation plans on the downtown waterfront before voters, which was successful.

Kriseman won re-election Tuesday night, getting 51.6 percent of the vote.

It also was a race that divided the city's sports teams, with the Tampa Bay Rays favoring and contributing to Kriseman and the Tampa Bay Rowdies soccer team supporting Baker. The former mayor worked for Rowdies owner Bill Edwards. Both candidates said they thought the city could support two sports teams.

Cascadia's soccer craze boosted by NASL roots and community outreach

SEATTLE -- The question is posed often enough to those around the sport in this part of the world: What is it about soccer in Cascadia?

Portland, Seattle and Vancouver finished first, second and third in Major League Soccer's Western Conference this season. The Sounders and Timbers are the two most recent MLS Cup champions, and all three Northwest clubs remain alive ahead of the second legs of the conference semifinals later this week and over the weekend.

The reasons behind the recent on-field successes are straightforward enough.

In brief: the original North American Soccer League buried the grassroots deep into the soil, inspiring a generation of players, coaches and fans who kept the flame of the game going throughout the dark decades after the NASL folded and before MLS came this way.

MLS To Detroit? Updated Bid Places Team At Ford Field

Aiming to spearhead a Major League Soccer expansion effort in Detroit, the Ford family has joined Detroit Pistons owner Dan Gilbert and Cleveland Cavaliers owner Tom Dores in their effort to bring top-level soccer to the Motor City by offering, at least temporarily, Ford Field as a possible venue for the team.

This new development could potentially mean an end, or at least a pause, to a previous plan by the group to build a soccer-specific stadium on the former construction site of an unfinished criminal justice complex in Wayne County, Michigan.

The Ford family also owns the Detroit Lions of the NFL, who would share the stadium with the proposed soccer team.

Ford Field was built in 2002 and renovated in the last year. The stadium can hold up to 62,000 spectators depending on configuration.

Rays Stadium Drama: Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan appears to be a lone wolf

Jumping the gun on the potential site announcement was bad business.

Until last week, there had been few new developments in the Rays stadium saga. The City of St. Petersburg had selected the current 80-acres of Tropicana Field for a proposed stadium-office-retail complex — with the new Suntrust Park development in Atlanta as an example — while a Hillsborough site was nowhere to be found.

That changed with the recent surprise announcement that County Commissioner Ken Hagan, who has spearheaded the Rays Stadium search in Hillsborough County, had identified a 14-acre plot on the edge of Ybor City.

With the options narrowed, the Rays could now assess these two sites, and choose which county/city government they would work with to build a replacement for Tropicana Field.

In theory, anyway. But it’s a bit more complicated than it appears on the surface.

PandaDoc Opens East Coast Headquarters in St. Petersburg Florida

PandaDoc partners with Greater St. Petersburg Area Economic Development Corporation to boost tech economy in the peninsula

PandaDoc, developers of the award-winning PandaDoc document automation platform, today announced the opening of their East Coast headquarters in St. Petersburg, Florida. The PandaDoc offices are located within Station House, a regional epicenter for business, cowork, and entrepreneurship, located on the 3rd Floor at 260 1st Ave S, St. in Petersburg. A grand opening celebration will take place on Thursday, November 16 at 4:00 p.m.

“We are excited to announce that our East Coast headquarters is in St. Petersburg, Florida,” said Jared Fuller, VP of Sales at PandaDoc. “We considered many cities, but after meeting with the St. Petersburg Area Economic Development Corporation, Station House and members of the greater St. Petersburg downtown community, the decision to come to Florida was an easy one – the community is experiencing explosive growth.”

PandaDoc recently secured a $15 million Series B round of funding and chose St. Petersburg because of its reasonable cost of living, beautiful environment and ability to attract young talent. Fuller added, “St. Pete had the right amount of weird for us, it felt much closer to a young San Francisco than most Eastern cities.”

PandaDoc currently has 15 employees in St. Petersburg and plans to double that number in 2018. PandaDoc also has offices in San Francisco, California, and Minsk, Belarus. St. Petersburg will be the company’s sales and customer service center, while its base of operations will remain in San Francisco and product development will remain in Minsk. PandaDoc is actively recruiting for sales, service, operations and support positions in St. Petersburg, a list of current openings can be found here.

“The City of St. Petersburg welcomes PandaDoc with open arms,” said St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman.“PandaDoc’s choosing us for their East Coast headquarters is more proof our Grow Smarter strategy is working. Relocating to St. Petersburg means harnessing our creative, competitive workforce for better productivity and financial results.”

“We are thrilled that PandaDoc now calls St. Petersburg home,” stated J.P. DuBuque, President at the Greater St. Petersburg Area Economic Development Corporation. “Our vibrant city is the perfect place for organizations that want to offer their staff a beautiful, warm, cost-effective place to work and play. We look forward to a bright future with PandaDoc.”

“We are very proud to call PandaDoc family,” stated Steve Gianfilippo, of Gianco Companies and Station House. “Station House is the perfect workspace for tech companies like PandaDoc. We offer a tech-friendly environment, collaborative workspace, events; a true Live, Work, Play lifestyle. So many of our Peers in the community made it possible for PandaDoc to establish a platform for future growth in the region. We are honored that we could assist and grateful that PandaDoc chose us. The talent they have and will recruit is to me the icing on the cake.”

The PandaDoc document automation platform is a unique Digital Transaction Management solution, helping accelerate the way organizations transact. PandaDoc has powerful features that enable businesses to easily generate, track and execute documents, including proposals, contracts, quotes and eSignatures. Companies that run on PandaDoc are consistently reporting higher close rates, bigger deals, shorter sales cycles, full compliance, and other improvements that relate to the final stages of the buying cycle.

How a dinner helped woo a San Francisco tech company and 100 jobs to St. Petersburg

PandaDoc, a San Francisco-based document automation company, is opening its East Coast operations center at Station House in St. Petersburg.

It plans to hire up to 100 people here by the end of 2018.

The backstory of how the tech company landed in St. Pete is a tale about college friendships, the affordability and workforce in the market, and making connections with business leaders who are passionate about the city and want to see the local tech industry grow.

Reuben Pressman, CEO and founder of Presence, took PandaDoc leaders, including Jared Fuller, vice president of sales and business development, on a whirlwind tour of St. Pete and set up a dinner with local business owners. Steve Gianfilippo, founder of Station House, provided free passes to use the facility and later office space.

No tax incentives were sought or awarded to attract the company, said J.P. DuBuque, president of the St. Petersburg Area Economic Development Corp.

“One of the things I think the community is sometimes missing is how connections, many times, make a difference,” DuBuque said. “Incentives can be important, I’m not saying they’re not, but community connections are what matters.”

Atmosphere also played a role, Fuller said.

St. Pete has a low cost of living, high quality of life, a diverse culture and — like San Francisco — St. Pete “is just the right amount of weird,” said Fuller, who will lead operations in St. Pete.

Talking talent at dinner

PandaDoc was founded by Mikita Mikado, CEO, and Sergey Barysiuk, chief technology officer. They were working in Minsk, Belarus in 2011 when they developed Quote Roller, a product to track sales proposals. Their second product was PandaDoc, with features that enable businesses to generate, track and execute documents.

The entire process is digital, Mikado told TechCrunch in a May interview.

“The documents [we generate] are electronic. They are not files. They are web applications,” Mikado said.

That means transactions are completed faster, said Fuller, who initially was a Quote Roller customer and joined PandaDoc in 2015, two years after Mikado and Barysiuk moved the headquarters of PandaDoc to San Francisco. They maintained an office in Minsk as well.

The company has gotten more than $20 million in investor funding, including a $15 million Series B round led by Rembrandt Venture Partners. Microsoft Ventures, HubSpot, EBRD, via the EBRD Venture Capital Investment Programme, and Altos Ventures also participated in the Series B round. The funding will help accelerate growth, a press release said.

About a year ago, Mikado started thinking about opening an East Coast office. Fuller’s wife, Brittany Fuller, had gone to school at University of South Florida St. Petersburg with Reuben Pressman, and she introduced Mikado and Fuller to Pressman.

“Jared originally talked about Orlando, Jacksonville or Miami,” Pressman said. “I talked him out of that.”

Citing St. Petersburg’s growing tech community, talent pool and lifestyle, Pressman convinced Fuller to come here and look at both St. Pete and Tampa.

On March 9, Pressman took Fuller and Mikado around St. Pete, visiting the offices of personal finance website The Penny Hoarder and other companies. There was an hourlong meeting with Mayor Rick Kriseman at City Hall, a meeting with DuBuque and the EDC, and a dinner at Red Mesa’s downtown restaurant.

Among those at the dinner were Hartmut Liebel, CEO of customer care company Iqor; technology attorney Brent Britton, managing partner of the Tampa office of De La Pena & Holiday; Rachel Carpenter, co-founder and CEO of financial technology firm Intrinio; John Adams, chief technology officer of e-commerce site Bringhub; Preston Faykus, founder and CEO of RankMiner, a predictive analytics firm; and Matthew Thomas, architect at Malwarebytes.

They talked a lot about the local workforce, Fuller said.

“We asked questions like, is there a talent pool here, and most said, ‘We can recruit from anywhere. If you show them St. Pete, they never want to go back to New York,’” Fuller said.

The local business leaders also said there’s plenty of entry-level, young talent here looking to build a career, which is Fuller’s focus.

Dinner was followed by drinks at The Canopy Rooftop Lounge at The Birchwood, when Fuller informally committed to opening an office in St. Pete, Pressman said.
Pivotal role

Also at the dinner was Station House founder Gianfilippo, who stayed in contact with Fuller and offered PandaDoc space at Station House before they could move into their initial choice for office space at Priatek Plaza at 200 Central Ave.

Around the same time, The Iron Yard, a computer coding learning center, announced it would close its Station House location and 14 others nationwide. Gianfilippo offered PandaDoc the space — about 6,000 square feet on the third floor of Station House, at 260 1st Ave. S.

“I texted Jared and two minutes later he said, ‘I’ll take it,’” Gianfilippo said.

There are about 15 PandaDoc employees in St. Pete now, Fuller said. They handle customer support and sales. Most of the new hires will be for similar jobs, although Fuller also expects some tech jobs here as well. Sergey Barysiuk, the chief technology officer, also has relocated to St. Pete.

A grand opening for the company is planned for Nov. 16.

Fuller said PandaDoc will play a pivotal role in helping grow the tech industry locally and foster more startups.

“If someone else starts a business and it fails, we don’t want them to have to move away. A tech ecosystem needs to have some established companies,” he said.

PandaDoc’s decision to locate in St. Pete sends a signal nationally that successful companies want to be here, Pressman said. Gianfilippo called it “a validator” for the market.

“It’s an important piece of PR for the region to have a company from Silicon Valley with a high standard of employment resources and quality of life say we want our sister location to be in St. Pete,” Gianfilippo said.

And, just as St. Pete tech leaders made their case to PandaDoc, Fuller now wants to pass on the message to others.

“I want to be an evangelist for other companies that are looking to scale and need the same resources as PandaDoc. That story needs to be told because it will help everyone,” Fuller said.

Adam Gase Has Tricked Miami Fans, but Giancarlo Stanton Has Been a Treat

Trick: David Beckham and MLS coming to Miami

"David Beckham moves closer to finalizing MLS move to Miami." How many times have you read that headline over the past three years? We'll believe it when we see it. We've lost count of the number of news conferences in which Beckham and random apparently rich/powerful people have held a soccer ball while wearing suits and talking about soccer coming to Miami.

Stop telling us about the labor pains and show us the baby already. We could have started our own soccer league filled with just Miami teams by now.

Orlando linked with Berget, Crew relocation investigation, Beckham’s bamboozle, and more.

David Beckham Accidentally Pranks Miami

As most of you are probably aware, David Beckham has been trying to bring an MLS franchise to Miami for some time now. And on Sunday, when he made an Instagram post with the caption “Big things are coming Monday,” people near South Beach were understandably excited. Unfortunately for them, the big announcement was simply about a relaunch of an Adidas cleat that Beckham used to wear back in the day. It was further confirmed that no announcement about a Miami MLS franchise would be forthcoming on Monday. So that’s awkward.

Tampa Bay Rowdies

A message from Rowdies Chairman and CEO Bill Edwards:

This past Saturday night I was very impressed and thankful for all the fans who came out in the rain for our semifinal match. It rained all day – but still more than 5,000 fans bought tickets and actually came out to the stadium. Everyone was in rain gear – including me – but after a while no one seemed to notice that it was still raining. That is a true test of a real fan!

So I want to thank everyone that, like me, sat in the rain and cheered on our team in their fight against the defending USL Champions. It took two hours of non-stop action before the Red Bulls II finally stopped our attacks and ultimately won the match. But it was the most exciting game I’ve ever witnessed.

I’m sure like you, I was so very proud of our team. They left it all out on the pitch. They never quit, and they fought like true champions.

I’ve only had this club a few years, but in that short time the team and fans have grown beyond compare, and we will continue to grow as your professional soccer team right here in St. Petersburg, FL.

Thank you to our sponsors for supporting our efforts – we couldn’t do it without you! Please keep supporting us as we build on the momentum of a successful 2017 season.

And finally I also want to thank our coaches, players, staff and especially our FANS for their unwavering support.

I look forward to next season. I wish it could start tomorrow!

Until then – COYR!

Bill Edwards

Breaking: FTL Strikers sale imminent - Soc Takes (soctakes.com)

(Follow link for full article.)

https://www.soctakes.com/2017/10/30/breaking-ftl-strikers-sale-imminent/

Ft. Lauderdale Strikers sale imminent

Deal agreed "in principle" between Mario Noriega and Bill Edwards

Multiple sources have confirmed to Soc Takes that the sale of the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers trademark is imminent. The buyer of the trademark is entrepreneur Mario Noriega, who has, per U.S. Soccer expert and Florida resident Kartik Krishnaiyer, previously attempted to purchase the brand.

A source close to the bid suggests that the deal has “been agreed in principle,” adding that the legal paperwork should be completed in the next few days. Once completed, the deal would result in Noriega acquiring the trademark, domain and franchise marks of the Strikers. Under the agreement, the team would be able to launch in any league that new ownership targets.

Soc Takes reached out to Bill Edwards for comment on the story.
History

The Strikers are a storied brand of American soccer. Founded in 1977, in the original NASL, the franchise has been home to some great names in American and world soccer, including the incomparable George Best, the magisterial Ray Hudson and “Der Bomber” Gerd Muller.

One of the original members of the NASL 2.0, the then-Miami FC club rebranded as the Fort Lauderdale Strikers and played in the league from 2010-16.

The Strikers experienced a tumultuous 2016 season marred by financial difficulties. Earlier this year, Tampa Bay Rowdies owner Bill Edwards filed a lawsuit against the Strikers’ corporate entity to recoup unpaid loans. In June, Edwards purchased the Strikers trademarks and rights.

As Krishnaiyer’s sourcing suggested, two different ownership groups had previously attempted to acquire the Strikers trademarks in December, but were unsuccessful in doing so.

The Miami-area men’s soccer scene

There are major changes underway in the Miami-area soccer scene. Boca Raton FC has signed a letter of intent to play in the NASL in 2018. Meanwhile, per the NISA website, a Miami team is poised to join the NISA league. That team is widely believed to be Miami United. Miami Fusion FC also plays in the NPSL.

Whether the NISA will launch in 2018 remains unclear.

Himmarshee FC, a supporter-owned club, has declared its intention to play in the Gold Coast Soccer Premier League in 2018. Meanwhile, Miami FC continues to dominate the NASL. Yet, the future of the NASL hangs in the balance.

The goal for the new ownership is to have the Strikers “on the pitch” in 2018, according to sources. Soc Takes understands that influential NASL owners do not want to affiliate with the Strikers brand currently, and the USL does not seem to be an option. Therefore, the most likely outlets appear to be the NPSL or local APSL, and the NPSL would be open to a good market application through the end of the year.
The takeaway

So, there seems to be at least one possible home for this team. Will this historic American club play anywhere in 2018? Will this famous American club play professional soccer in 2019?

In the world of lower-division American soccer, change is aplenty, but the future is mired in uncertainty.

Major Link Soccer: David Beckham hints at a big MLS expansion announcement

Something has to give between the overtures of Vegas and the hype of Miami, and an announcement on either could be coming today.

MLS:

The David Beckham-led MLS expansion bid could add a new chapter on Monday, after Beckham teased a big announcement via his Instagram this weekend.

David Beckham’s ‘Big’ news not what Miami hoped for

David Beckham made a big announcement on Monday morning, but it’s not the one South Florida soccer fans were hoping for.

That Beckham tease on Instagram Sunday, the one about “Big things are coming Monday,” the one that had local media abuzz, had nothing to do with his proposed Miami Major League Soccer team.

MLS spokesman Dan Courtemanche and Miami Beckham United spokesperson Tadd Schwartz confirmed that there is no announcement about MLS Miami scheduled for Monday.

Turns out, the “Big thing” Beckham alluded to is the Adidas launch of the Predator DB Accelerator soccer cleat, a remake of the 1998 leather shoe the superstar wore when he was bending free kicks at the prime of his career.

Adidas posted on Twitter Sunday night a photo of Beckham with the shoes and the caption: “The boot of a generation. Remastered by David Beckham. Unveiled tomorrow.”

As for the next step in Beckham’s quest to bring MLS to Miami, the land has been purchased, the lawsuit has been thrown out, and once some due diligence is done, a press conference with Beckham and majority owner Todd Boehly is expected. But it won’t be Monday.

The Beautiful Game: records with 71,000 plus.

The last game for Toronto FC saw the club visit Atlanta for an opportunity to reach a season-high in terms of number of points and to set a league record for the number of points in the regular season. The game against Atlanta set one record in the fact that there were over 71,000 in the stands thereby setting a Major League Soccer (MLS) record for a regular season game. Actually, on that particular weekend that attendance would've been among one of the top five attendances in the whole world for a soccer match, matched only possibly by Manchester United and Barcelona and possibly some German club teams. The atmosphere in Atlanta in the Mercedes Benz stadium was electric.

Inaugural MLS playoff contest between 'Caps, Sounders has plenty of history

Sunday night's first leg of the Western Conference semifinals between the Vancouver Whitecaps and Seattle Sounders may be the clubs' first ever MLS postseason meeting. But their clash in the 2017 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs is just the latest chapter in one of the longest rivalries in North American club soccer history.

The match Sunday (8:30 pm ET | ESPN, TSN 1/4, TVAS 2) will be the 144th encounter between the two clubs going all the way back to an NASL rivalry that began in 1974.

Their first NASL playoff match came two seasons later, when the Sounders emerged as 1-0 victors in a winner-takes-all first round match. But the Vancouver Whitecaps would become the only side from the Pacific Northwest to win an NASL Championship in 1979.

The demise of the NASL brought a hiatus to rivalry matches played between the two cities, one that ended when both fielded sides in the APSL in the 1990s. That league later morphed into the A-League and then the USL 1st Division.

With Seattle coming into MLS in 2009 and Vancouver following in 2011, the rivalry was renewed in a true North American first division. The old foes also met twice during group play of the 2015-16 CONCACAF Champions League, with Seattle earning four points out of six to advance from the group.

Intriguing Stadium Developments in Chicago (self.MLS)

Field of Schemes reported today about a developer's plan to lure Amazon's HQ2 to Chicago by including something called "Amazon Stadium" in the plan. This 50,000-seat venue would be "a world-class sports and entertainment stadium." Kinda looks like a soccer park to me.

The same developer, Sterling Properties, also just trademarked the names Chicago River and Chicago Wind for use for "a professional soccer team."

Whether this is for the Fire, Peter Wilt's Chicago NASL idea, or something completely different… who can say? No matter what, it all seems dependent on Chicago landing the Amazon HQ2.

https://orangeandbluepress.com/2017/10/27/usl-eastern-conference-playoff-predictions-conference-semi-finals/

USL Eastern Conference Playoff Predictions: Conference Semi-Finals

It was easy to predict Louisville’s machine-gun mauling of Bethlehem at home and Rochester’s smothering defense taking the last breath of air out of a wounded Charlotte team. Perhaps even the mugging that FC Cincinnati received at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rowdies wasn’t that hard to see.

#3 Tampa Bay Rowdies (15-11-7) vs. #7 New York Red Bulls II (14-5-14)

Head-to-head record:

The teams are level in the two matches they have faced each other (1W-1L-0T).

Past results:

While the rivalry between Tampa Bay and the New York Red Bulls’ USL affiliate has not been very deep, the Ghosts of Leagues Past may resurface—Tampa Bay’s stint in the modern-day version of the NASL had been haunted by the team’s inability to figure out the New York Cosmos. Not only did the Rowdies manage to win only twice in 11 games versus the Rowdies, but the Cosmos had won three NASL titles in that span to Tampa Bay’s one.

As FC Cincinnati fans can attest, Tampa Bay is a well-oiled machine at home, losing only once at Al Lang Stadium all year. Despite the overall numbers being close to even, Tampa Bay’s edge came from their ruthless efficiency on net—eight of the Rowdies’ 12 shots were on goal, with all three goals coming from the keeper’s right. Midfielder Marcel Schäfer pocketed a brace, and ace Georgi Hristov scored a banger off the crossbar to ice the game.

New York, however, seems more dangerous than advertised. Unsatisfied with simply handing over their 2016 championship stake, the Baby Bulls marched into Charleston and torched the Battery for a 4-0 beat-down. Forward Stefano Bonomo and midfielder Florian Valot were again amongst those who scored, and goalkeeper Evan Louro got his third clean sheet of the season. Considering that Charleston had a +23 goal differential at home this year, it could be safe to say that the Baby Bulls aren’t afraid of defenses on the road.

Prediction: New York 3, Tampa Bay 2.

It’s quite possible that New York’s offense is hitting its stride at the right time, as the team has not been shut out since July. The Red Bulls laid out the Rowdies 4-2 at home with three players picking up a goal and an assist, while Tampa Bay had arguably its worst passing game of the season (yet still scored twice).

The Rowdies hung on for a 3-2 win later in the season at home, scoring all three goals in the first half, with Schäfer smoking two goals with his red-hot left foot. However, there is one glaring factor in the second game that might have given the Rowdies the win—New York picked up a debilitating red card in the second half. Had New York managed a full team for the final thirty minutes, could the game have been different?

That is just one reason why this game could turn into a potential upset. New York sports one of the youngest squads in the USL with their oldest player at the age of 28. Meanwhile, ten players on the Rowdies’ squad are over the age of 30. The average age gap is striking between these two teams, and still a bit of that 2016 Red Bulls II championship team is in place, so experience isn’t something they lack. Expect Junior Flemmings to be the thorn in Tampa Bay’s side—the forward scored in both games against the Rowdies this year.

USL Weekend Preview – Conference Semifinals

Saturday night sees spotlight fall on final eight teams vying for USL Cup

No. 3 Tampa Bay Rowdies vs. No. 7 New York Red Bulls II

7:30 p.m. ET, Al Lang Stadium (Match Center | Full Preview)

The Tampa Bay Rowdies and New York Red Bulls II meet for the first time in the postseason after each having taken victory on home turf in their two regular-season meetings. With both coming off impressive victories in the previous round, and having combined for 11 goals in two prior meetings, there could be quite an attacking display at Al Lang Stadium on Saturday night.

The Rowdies opened their first trip to the USL Cup Playoffs with an emphatic 3-0 win against No. 6-seed FC Cincinnati last Saturday night that saw former German international Marcel Schäfer score twice and the club’s modern-era goal-scoring leader Georgi Hristov add a third. The win was Tampa Bay’s 12th in 17 league games at Al Lang Stadium this season, where the side has lost only once in front of its passionate support.

The Red Bulls II opened their quest to become the first team to win back-to-back USL Cups with a 4-0 victory against the No. 2-seed Charleston Battery, as four different players found the net. New York’s attack has been on fire in the final third of the season, averaging 2.9 goals per game over its past 10 outings. After being edged out 3-2 in their first visit to Al Lang Stadium after being reduced to 10 men early in the second half, the Red Bulls II have their focus set on another big road win.
