MLS Expansion Update: Phoenix, Minnesota, Nashville, LAFC and More

As is typical with these types of articles, the Tampa Bay Rowdies never get a mention. Partly this is a result of the type of thinking which says that Orlando is too close (it isn't); in fact for rivalry reasons alone, this is a plus for the Tampa Bay Rowdies, as fans only have an hour and a half drive to deal with, which means more traveling away supporters and a better in stadium atmosphere during "derby matches". Also the Tampa Bay area TV market is larger than either Orlando or Miami.  MLS isn't going to ignore the Tampa Bay area if a deep pocketed ownership group is willing to build a SSS. Yes it is true Bill Edwards is downplaying MLS in public at the moment, but it is obvious that he has also been talking about moving to MLS, in private, to St. Pete city officials and to his business partners. And yes, Miami Beckham United has been extremely quiet of late.

MLS Expansion Update: Phoenix, Minnesota, Nashville, LAFC and More

By Chad C Smith on Sep 5, 2016, 9:00a

We check in on expansion stories for Major League Soccer around the country including exciting news out of Phoenix, Arizona, Minnesota and Nashville, Tennessee. Also we release our MLS Expansion Power Rankings.

. . .

1. David Beckham's Miami United

Miami is a mess. It's been well over two years since the team was announced but it seems MLS is looking for them to still be the 24th team. I could see them being skipped if they cannot get their stadium situation worked out. Also, Beckham is still looking for partners to share in ownership with him.
