FLORIDA

That spaceship on top of a Tampa strip club? It once was the house of the future.

How did a Futuro house become the VIP room on the roof of 2001 Odyssey?

2001 Odyssey is known for its iconic spaceship. But how did that thing actually get on the roof?

TAMPA — If you’ve driven Dale Mabry Highway in the past 50 years, you’ve likely seen it: a flying saucer, sun glistening off its shiny silver paint, perched atop the 2001 Odyssey strip club.

Last night at The Orpheum

Last night was my first time going to Ybor!

It was a blast! I went to an underground rap show at The Orpheum, and ended up on stage with one of the performers! I was wondering if anyone was there or captured the moment? If any of you went, I hope you enjoyed the show!

Either way, Tampa, thanks for being so awesome! I checked out some of the bars along the way, and after the show, but this will not be my last time in Ybor, what a blast! Feel free to recommend any bars or must see places to check out!

Happy weekend!!

https://www.reddit.com/r/tampa/comments/cb14he/still_my_favorite_building_in_tampa/

Still my favorite building in Tampa.

It used to be an old hotel - I think Teddy Roosevelt slept there on his way to the Spanish-American war. Now it's part of the University of Tampa campus downtown. I used to teach there! It's still beautiful, but it doesn't have modern air conditioning.

Tampa’s city hall used to be a very similar architectural design, by J.A.Wood. But of course they demolished it and built the ugly ass blue Marine Bank Building where it used to be. Now the city police headquarters at 315 Madison.

Part of the building also contains the Plant Hall museum, kept in the era when it was open. They decorate it for Christmas in Victorian style.

Henry B Plant had the train stop on the backside of the hotel to drop off his guests. The hallways are so wide and long that they used rickshaws to transport guests through the building.

The Science wing was originally the staff sleeping quarters.

They used to hunt pheasant on the grounds, in the area between the hotel and the river.

What and where is that?

Plant Hall, just across from Curtis Hixon Downtown.

How far from Downtown Tampa?

Right across the Hillsborough River, can be a 5-10 minute walk depending where you start from downtown

Ohh okay, you can see this building from across the Riverwalk, right?

I'm with you. I probably take more pictures of this place than anywhere else in Tampa.

Local Dining

Just saw on their Facebook that they're dunzo, as of the end of tonight's service. Bummer. They were always a good option for a light, downtown meal. Although it was always dead whenever I went there so, that's life I guess. I'm sad that I'll never hear the cover of "I Want to Hold Your Hand", where the lyrics are changed to "I Hope You Wash Your Hands", piped through the bathroom speakers again. Can't wait to visit whatever overpriced nonsense replaces it; kinda kidding, kinda not kidding.
