Rowdies Home Attendance Thread - Game 10 vs. Ottawa Fury FC [6/29]

A new look to an old favorite! I've been posting Rowdies attendance threads to this sub for the last 6 years and always did it in a Reddit table. As time went on an my league trackers got refreshed looks, I never changed what I did here, but I feel like it's about time we get a pretty look, too. I mean...this is what started it all. So here's the new format for our home attendance threads (I'll post over to Twitter, too.)

At any rate, last week we drew 5,396. A shock to me. Ticketmaster sales looked really solid all game and it felt like every one of those people showed for the game. Perhaps the threat of rain kept some people away (we almost didn't tailgate ourselves).

A few weeks until our next one at home against St. Louis. Plenty of time to sell some tickets...

looks good man! Always look forward to seeing the progress.

Thanks!

Why did RB2 almost sell out? Did we have a promo that night?

Edit: Dumb I'm pretty sure that was right after the sale

We know being inclusive is not only the right thing to do — it makes good business sense.

We're proud to join @HRC to sign a landmark amicus brief in a trio of #SCOTUS cases that could determine whether LGBTQ people are protected from discrimination.

J King's Corner (Week 17) TBR v OTT 2-1

No Luck Needed- I don't claim to be an expert, though if you mistake me for one, I appreciate your kindness. I do by my best to analyze what I see, and the beauty of that is that your opinion can change when presented by new information. At the beginning of this season, I made a few wrong predictions. I thought the Rowdies would struggle early to find chemistry in Collins first full year of a rebuild, and somehow the Rowdies are pacing the East with an insanely talented Indy Eleven squad. I also didn't believe that Guenzatti would prove to be the Rowdies best scoring option and Tejada could be a potential full-time starter this early in his professional career. But this is why Collins gets paid to coach and Cohen gets paid to manage. Cohen found a lot of hidden talent and guys looking for a shot to prove themselves and Collins implemented a system of high energy football that has truly been special to watch. So when the Rowdies are reversing their fortune and driving home a last-minute goal at home, I'm still sitting here in shock that the Rowdies haven't lost a road game this season.

Captain Guenzatti has my Vote of Confidence- I spent a lot of time discussing Guenzatti's level of play during his tenure as uninspiring and admonishing his lack of pace and finishing ability especially when playing against good defenses. While I would still express concern about Guenzatti's scoring ability versus an Indy or St Louis, I am fully confident Guenzatti has the ability and confidence to score goals against every USL team, which is a far cry on where I initially was on him. Tejada has also shown his value with play like Chicharito, the poacher's delight himself. Tejada is the right place right time blast the ball home sort of player. The move to get Mkosana makes so much sense. If Guenzatti is struggling to get good shots in the playoffs, the Rowdies have another true goal-scoring option in Mkosana. Mkosana can be a key factor in the second half of the season, and the playoffs whether it be creating space for Guenzatti, or getting goals himself. The play of Fernandes and Johnson will be crucial, as those two have been the most instrumental in breaking defenses down and getting chances to the forwards.

Francois is a real-life Cheetah- Francios got the only goal for Ottawa and it was absolutely inhuman the speed and precision he has with his movements. He has 5 goals and 4 assists this year and if he continues to improve his game I think he has MLS potential with his pace on the wing. His goal had a little bit more to do with Diakite making a rare careless mistake. Diakite had a bad touch and angle on the ball and should've just cleared it immediately like he often does if he feels he's under pressure. Sometimes Diakite has done this where he's so confident that he'll get a touch and use his body to block the attacker and dribble his way out. I think Diakite was going for the latter here and severely misjudged how agile and quick Francois is. There was a run later that Francois went on that I thought my stream was broken he was going so fast. He left Richards in the dust and Richards isn't slow. Diakite had to make a really good goal-line clearance to keep Francois from getting his second goal. Francois is terrifying to play against, would love to see him on a future Rowdies team.

Najem was taking a shot- I saw in the postgame Guenzatti was asked if Najem took a shot or a pass and it was pretty clearly a shot, BUT, that is exactly how you want to miss those sorts of shots. Missing a shot going across the goal allows for either a poor clearance, or your team poacher to get himself a goal. Tejada was on the far post and he banged it home. And just because it's a poachers goal doesn't mean Tejada didn't earn it. Not only was it great positioning. Tejada put the header across that Najem hit.

Johnson's profile is rising- Johnson was the catalyst behind the stoppage time goal and he's been productive and exciting every time he takes the field. When he starts he's usually efficient for 45-60 minutes. He's also very dangerous as a last half hour sub.

The Ekra/Steinberger pairing is back- It's good to see these two centre mids back in the same lineup as Tinari recovers and Poku continues to jockey for more minutes. It's hard to predict what the best centre mid combo is going to be with four guys that play the position really well, only time will tell.

Future Moves- With two forwards out and a new one in, it will be interesting to see if either Siaj gets some playing time. Taylor has been the depth forward option so far, but I wonder if he'll make it through the end of the season if he continues to stay under 90 minutes played. Could the Rowdies still be looking for another forward to bring in to add another depth option?

Look forward to your reviews each week. Keep up the good work! Love that both Tejada and Sebastian have found this consistency.

USL power ratings: July 1, 2019 [OC]

Tampa re-takes the top spot in the projected table from Indy. Have a feeling those two are going to go back-and-forth for a while.

With a projected delta of less that 1.5 points between us and them, it’s going to be a tense 2nd half of the season. https://i.imgur.com/wWH8yCT.jpg

Still a loooong way to go (Hartford could finish first! Tampa could finish last!), but certainly at current form, there are some really good battles within a few defined tiers, for sure.

What is the Gasparilla Pirate Festival + Parade ??? 🏴‍☠️ Tampa Traditions | MELANIE ❤️ TAMPA BAY

Melanie Loves Tampa Bay

Published on Jan 18, 2019

For anyone who doesn't live in Tampa, Gasparilla can be a real head scratcher - what is it? Mid-January, us Tampa Bay residents are getting our beads ready.

So what is Gasparilla?

Gasparilla Pirate Festival was inspired by the legend of Jose Gaspar, who supposedly was a Spanish Naval officer-turned-pirate back in the late 18th century and early 19th century who plundered the waters of the West Coast of Florida.

Now, there is no actual evidence that this really happened, but nobody cares about that little detail.

Back in 1904, the story of Jose Gaspar was unearthed and Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla adopted him as a patron rogue of their city-wide celebration.

That celebration has been evolving ever since, and now the Gasparilla invasion and pirate parade is the third largest parade in the United States, attracting around 300,000 people to the city of Tampa.

Even though the pirate invasion is the main draw, there are lots of other Gasparilla-themed events that take place over several weeks:

Children's Gasparilla Parade - family-friendly, bead-throwing good time for all ages. Parade route runs along Bayshore Boulevard, and this usually takes place the week before the main pirate invasion. Alcohol-free event.
http://gasparillapiratefest.com/childrens-fest/

Gasparilla Parade of Pirates presented by Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla - held on the last Saturday in January, Ye Mystic Krewe fearlessly pilots their ship up Tampa Bay, firing off cannons until it reaches the city shore. Once there, they demand the key to the city from the mayor. When the mayor gives up the key, they have a victory parade up Bayshore Boulevard, and the pirates take over for one not-so-fearful afternoon.

Even if you're not a 'parade person,' you should still make your day downtown and enjoy the festivities throughout the day at the local bars and restaurants.

With Love, Melanie
