The Tampa-St. Petersburg metro area is putting together a proposal to be the site of Amazon’s second headquarters. And it’s not alone; over 50 other cities are reportedly crafting proposals in an attempt to land the retail/tech giant. The Tampa metro area meets Amazon’s basic requirements—an international airport and a population over 1 million—but its greatest advantage is being in Florida.
The CEO of Tampa’s local economic development corporation recently said that “On a scale of 1 to 10, this is a 13 for us. We have read Amazon's RFP (request for proposal) and it sounds like it was written for us.”
But was it? Tampa does meet the airport and population requirements, but Amazon also wants a developed labor pool where it can find talented workers. Along this dimension, Tampa trails many of its competitors.
The table below shows the percentage of private nonfarm employment in the information industry and professional, scientific, and technical services industry for several metro areas vying for Amazon. It also includes the U.S. metro area average and Seattle—home of Amazon’s current headquarters—as references. These data give us some idea about how deep the local labor pool is for the high-skill workers Amazon wants. Tampa trails notable tech hubs San Francisco and Boston, and it also lags New York and Atlanta.

Live in Clearwater, work in St Pete. We moved here from Nashville a couple of months ago and we have yet to have good Mexican food. I’m talking sit down, chips and salsa, white queso dip, margaritas, fajitas, chimichangas, etc.
Is there anywhere in Pinellas County/Tampa where this exists? It seems all that we can find are burrito places. it’s crazy because where we are from you can’t go more than a mile or two without finding some good ass Mexican and we miss it dearly. Thanks

Planning a date night and thought it would be nice to hit up the dessert room at Bern's. I called and was told they don't make reservations for just the dessert room, it's first come first serve (without a dining reservation). However, I've heard multiple people suggest this as a date option sans dining, so I was just looking for some advice.
Had anyone done this? Know how long the typical wait is, or when is generally a good time to show up? Or if I am mistaken and you can't actually do this and expect to be sat? Would be on a Friday night.

Hi there!
We're on our honeymoon and going home tomorrow. Therefore we would like to have a nice dinner tonight as a great ending to a great vacation.
We're located near the Tampa Intl Airport, and would prefer something that's not too far from there. Our budget is around $150 at the most and we aren't really huge fans of seafood, but otherwise we're open to most things - we love a great steak. We're not looking for places where we should make a reservation since it's tonight.
EDIT: We chose to go with Charley's and have a reservation in a few hours. Thanks for all the suggestions though, they're greatly appreciated! Will get back to you and lynch you, if Charley's is not great ;)
Edit #2: We went to Charley's and didn't regret it one second. It was a great experience and the food was amazing! I got a filet mignon and my husband got a porterhouse. For sides we got the complimentary house salad and cheese/garlic bread and bacon/cheddar mashed potatoes. As for desserts he went with creams brûlée and I went with apple pie. Drinks were a glass of red wine and a blueberry lemonade. Including tips we paid $207.

Hi guys!
I'm moving to the area next month. One thing I've enjoyed in my life is being able to live in a walkable city, i.e. having grocery stores, restaurants, and bars within walking distance of where I live.
Having not spent much time there yet, is this something I could find in St. Pete? Maybe in the downtown area?

Drone Vlog from Clearwater Beach! This beach has been rated number 1 by Trip Advisor for many years, in close competition with Siesta Key, which sits at number 1 currently. There is so much to do here at Clearwater Beach! From watersports, great dining, shopping, people watching, and nightlife, there is something for everyone on Clearwater Beach! There are a multitude of restaurants, hotels, and shops all along the beach. There are also some great activities for the kids! There is a HUGE inflatable water slide, Bungee trampolines, and of course Playgrounds! There are a number of water fountains near the play area so the little ones stay hydrated. There are also Restrooms all along the beach, and in many of the parking areas. Parking here is expensive at $3 per hour! But with that, you get an amazing view, pristine white sand beaches, and a bunch of activities for everyone! There are also rentals available, from multi passenger bikes, to scooters, to jet ski's! If you are planning a trip to Florida, make time for Clearwater Beach!
