DELTAS’ HEAD-COACH-TO-BE GIVES USL FINAL LOCAL ANGLE

Last August, the San Francisco Deltas, an NASL expansion team, slated to begin play in 2017, announced Marc Dos Santos as their head coach for their inaugural season.

So we can hazard a guess where Deltas’ rooting interest lies in this weekend’s United Soccer League Cup Final, when the Swope Park Rangers, coached by Dos Santos, will face the New York Red Bulls II.

This is not Dos Santos’ first USL Final, having the won the championship as head coach of the Montreal Impact in 2009, three years before that club would join the MLS.

Sunday’s final features two teams owned by MLS clubs. The New York Red Bulls II, who boasted the league’s best record, host Dos Santos’ Rangers, owned and operated by Sporting Kansas City.

The Deltas will no doubt be watching Sunday and hoping Dos Santos brings his winning ways with him.
