Second site, this one near downtown St. Louis, emerges for potential pro soccer stadium

Another potential Major League Soccer stadium site is emerging in downtown St. Louis.

The city has secured the option to possibly purchase 30 acres owned by the state Department of Transportation near 22nd Street and Highway 40 (Interstate 64). The city has spoken with potential MLS team ownership groups about the site, “but there may be other potential uses as well,” Otis Williams, executive director of the city’s Land Clearance and Redevelopment Authority, said Thursday.

“We have had discussions but there has not been any commitment or decision on any front related to that,” Williams said.

There are at least two potential MLS ownership groups in St. Louis.
