HOPING FOR A REPEAT PRESENTATION

Given NASL fall season trophy after practice, Cosmos would love Soccer Bowl version after a game

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- In an informal ceremony after training at Shuart Stadium Thursday morning, North American Soccer League commissioner Bill Peterson presented Cosmos captain Carlos Mendes and the rest of his teammates the fall championship trophy.

"Carlos, I have more pictures of you than my wife," Peterson told the veteran center back as the players laughed. "This is the fifth trophy I have given you in four years."

Peterson had made his point.

The Cosmos? They just hope what transpired was only a dress rehearsal, a sequence that will repeated sometime the weekend of Nov. 12-13. If that does occur that means they will have won their third Soccer Bowl title in four years and two years running.
